Cota Street Restriping

What's changing?
The City of Shelton is reverting Cota Street (between 1st and 6th Streets) back to its original street layout. This reverses the traffic calming measures that were installed during the summer of 2024.

Why are we restriping?

The purpose of traffic calming measures is to enhance neighborhood safety and livability. However, feedback from residents and business owners indicated that the changes on Cota Street did not meet the community’s needs. After reviewing this input, the Shelton City Council, during its study session on August 26, 2025, voted to restore Cota Street to its original layout.

When is this project scheduled?
The City's contractor is scheduled to begin work on October 6, 2025. Working hours are generally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The project is estimated to take approximately 4 days to be completed. This project is weather-dependent.

Will Cota be closed for this project?
This project will involve a rolling closure of Cota Street. Crews will complete work one block at a time (example: between 4th and 5th Streets) in order to keep the majority of the road open.
