Shelton Police Department Names 2024 Officer of the Year

The Shelton Police Department has named Detective Corporal Mike Gettle the 2024 Shelton Police Officer of the Year.

Corporal Gettle has 14 years of law enforcement experience, of which the last three years have been with the Shelton Police Department. He has held positions as a patrol officer and detective and was most recently promoted to corporal in December.

The Officer of the Year award is given annually in recognition of a commitment to excellence in policing and service to the public. The mission of the Shelton Police Department is to provide excellent service and protection through leadership and partnership with our community. The recipient of this award does an outstanding job of reflecting our values and mission statement in their job duties.

Corporal Gettle exemplifies what it means to serve and protect the community. He is the current supervisor of investigations and is directly involved in investigating our most serious crimes. Gettle seamlessly manages a large caseload. Throughout his career with Shelton Police, he has consistently maintained and created partnerships with the community and other agencies.

Corporal Gettle frequently goes above and beyond the duties of basic investigation. He establishes a professional relationship with the victim(s) and their families to guide them through the legal process.

As one employee noted, “Gettle will cancel his own personal plans to help out another officer.”

Gettle was nominated by his peers and selected by Chief Chris Kostad for this prestigious award, which is a true reflection of the respect he has earned as a supervisor, coworker, and friend.
